Since the summer of 2016, the College of Marin, in partnership with the Marin County Office of Education, has offered multiple industry-specific Career Academies for high school students. This year hit new heights, with over 200 high school students representing the majority of Marin School Districts participated in academies this summer, thus quadrupling enrollment from 2016!
Attending a Career Academy provides many students their first opportunity to earn college credit and envision the post-secondary path to a career of their choice. Academies are week-long intensive educational courses gives high school students the opportunity to explore career interests and gain industry knowledge before graduation.
Students gain focused, work-based learning experience in various career fields. An easy entry point for students of all abilities and backgrounds, the academies are also a first step to obtaining future internships and employment within an industry sector.
Six Career Academies were offered this summer at both College of Marin campuses and the Marin County Office of Education. This summer’s program offered academies in Healthcare, Digital Game Development, Business/Entrepreneurship, Cyber Security, Solar Energy, and Career Exploration.
