New Certificate Targeting Advanced Transportation Employment College of Marin has launched a new Certificate of Achievement in Advanced Transportation Technology. This certificate addresses the demand for SMART train technicians and other regional transportation needs.
This cross-industry certificate is for 18.5 units, requiring completion of seven classes across four subject areas: 2 Auto Collision Repair, 3 Automotive Technology, 1 Machine and Metals Technology, and 1 Electronics Technology. Careers in this area include Diesel Engine Specialist, with an income range from $38,220 to $95,110 annually.*
The Advanced Transportation Certificate offers students the opportunity to learn the academic and occupational skills needed by future entry-level technicians in the growing $21.8 billion transportation industry.
“The curriculum was developed with guidance from our industry partners and prepares students with foundational courses, and then focuses technologies used in light, medium and heavy-duty vehicles,” says Instructor Mark Barrall. “The program has initial special emphasis on the need for SMART Train technicians.” The Advanced Transportation Technology certificate is designed to be as flexible as possible, offering students and working technicians the opportunity to gain the needed knowledge and skills with existing classes.
